The Best Of The Worst

This cover bothers me. It reminds me of Raphael DeSoto, not Albert Drake. I try to see Drake in it, but don’t. All I see is DeSoto, DeSoto, DeSoto. I suppose some art expert told you it’s Drake, given there is no clear signature anywhere.
It’s listed as Drake on the contents page
Haha! Well, I guess that is expert enough! I never thought to look at the actual issue. Obviously, the publisher would know better than me. I guess Drake did a DeSoto look-alike cover for them. (DeSoto must have been busy that month.)
Raphael DeSoto’s art confirmed.
At that time (1945), Drake was not skilled enough to paint such a fine cover.
On the contrary, DeSoto was then familiar with this kind of portraits.
So the publisher must have planned a Drake’s cover which may not have been available on time.
Wether the artist is DeSoto or Endris but definitely NOT Albert Drake.
