  1. I can remember when any whitespace in a file name would be read as the end of the name (with no extension). In Linux, today, one can include any character in a name, but some form escape is needed for whitespace and wild cards; an additional escape is then needed to enable use of the escape character. This results in some really weird looking text strings.
