  1. What I would like to know is, were hernias that big of a problem in the 30s, 40s, and 50s?
The bulk of the ads in these pulp magazines, Detective, Science Fiction, and even the “True Men Stories” seem to be for trusses.
Was this an epidemic problem back then and what changed to stop it now?

    1. 27% of males will develop a hernia today. It’s a very common medical problem. The only thing that has changed is we now have relatively simple surgeries to help correct the problem, so you don’t see trusses advertised anymore.

And didn’t I answer this question here already?

      1. Hey, I have other things on my mind from time to time.
Besides, I see new magazines with Truss ads and I get curious.
AND I am blond and we . . . . well, we have a reputation to maintain.

(Thanks for reminding me. I never knew it was 27%. That seems really high for something that does not have ads on USA television)
