  1. By the late 1960s these publications were running out of gas. WWII had ended over twenty years before, and Vietnam, what Mario Puzo called “the no-fun war,” was no substitute.

    Further, society and its laws were changing, and outright porno publications were cutting into this market – once daring, now staid and passé.

    The cover painters – Saunders, Norem – weren’t getting any younger either, and photographs began to push them off the covers even here.

    This was the end of an era.
