The Best Of The Worst
There is a signature on this painting. It is right above the first “e” of “Bellem” and goes to the second “e.”
The artists on rotation on this pulp at this time were: Ward, Parkhurst, Palmer and Soare. It’s not the style of Ward or Parkhurst. It’s also not the style of Soare. That leaves Palmer or some guest artist.
The signature looks like an S-O-I or R or K or IO-U. If that’s true, then that might indicate Soare, yet the style doesn’t fit him. Perhaps he changed it up a bit for this one? The style doesn’t exactly fit Palmer, either, but the face of the man reminds me of other stuff Palmer did. I’m at a loss with this one.
Oh, now I’m really confused. I just found a Delos Palmer cover that actually fits with the style of the above cover. So he apparently DID paint in this style… So now I’m back to saying it must be Palmer. But what about that unknown signature? Here’s the cover:
Haha! Well, it took me long enough to figure this one out!
Signed, Joseph Sokoli.
FYI: Joseph Szokoli also signed as Sokoli.
