This whole painting is great: the looks on both their faces, but the small things too like his immaculate cufflinks and bow tie denote him as one of the gentleman class but the damaged wall denotes sleaziness and poverty–and the glow from the light is indeed a type of halo. And is he paying her for her services or stealing her money–either way he’s a HEEL!! ….or is he that angel helping her out for a good cause!? Classic!!
