  1. What a serene self-satisfied face we have here. The hint of the bare shoulder and the poppy which (if I remember my DH Lawrence) was used to decorate a certain part of her anatomy and was one of the reasons the book was banned makes for a suggestive yet innocent picture – just the sort desired for in 1946. An entirely beautiful painting of one of my favourite books [I also loved The Virgin and the Gypsy as well as enjoying the film – I collect books/films of Romanies and have found several interesting books on this blog thank youse verra muchio!!]
