  1. I’ll tell you something – those planes were loud. Soundproofing? Too heavy! Those engines roared headache-pounding loud right next to the passenger cabin, and you needed earplugs or else you’d need a hearing aid!

    This was one of the many advantages to airship travel – the Diesel engines were far away, up and out of sight behind the curve of the hull. Not only were you never sea- or airsick, but you could converse normally, and even listen to a phonograph tecord!
