I like the smug look on his face and her beautifully arched eyebrows and knowing – even disdainful look on HER face. I would love to know the chemistry between these two, especially as it is historical fiction so possibly based on historical fact. She is going to be quite a handful on board ship despite his whip and not the handful he is perhaps expecting. But I don’t think she’d pass as a Swahili, Mr Johnson – but the rest of the painting is superb.
