What a marvellous piece of work! Norman Saunders really knew how to put a whole story into a face and there are faces abundant here. I love the high roller with his big expensive Cuban cigar and his bejewelled lady; I love the industrious cop with his gun – no messing about there, chum!; even the exterior crowd all have great expressions of alarm or consternation; But I love the officious cop looking straight at where the action is – which is my favourite pose of all. The nonchalant look of the (murderous mermaid?) as she draws out her gun and especially the look in her dancing partner’s eye as he realises what she is doing. Absolutely CLASSIC!!
