I’m curious as to how this cover became attributed to H.J. Ward. It is not listed in David Saunders’ checklist in the back of his book “H.J. Ward.” only Private Detective, Spicy Western, and The Lone Ranger are listed for 1937-09.
Some of Delos Palmer’s work (yes, this is another Delos Palmer cover) is spectacularly beautiful, such as this piece. Whenever he contrasts the white skin of the beauty–(often washing her out with light such as in this painting)–with the dark skin of her adversaries, it pops off the page. As if she wasn’t bright enough, he adds in blonde hair just to turn it up a notch. I also love how his paintings are so curvy. No straight lines anywhere.
